Crime Numbers
The New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety provides crime data for all the counties in the state. Its most recent figures for Burlington County are for 2017. In that year, the county recorded 13 murders, 109 rapes, 179 robberies, and 369 aggravated assaults. Larceny-theft was the leading property crime with 4,799 incidents followed by 1,183 burglaries and 334 motor vehicle thefts.
Compared to the 2013 crime data for the county, murder (44.4%), rape (28.2%), aggravated assault (9.2%), and motor vehicle theft (7.1%) rates increased in 2017. On the other hand, the five-year crime trend for Burlington County indicates falling robbery (37%), burglary (34.5%), and larceny-theft (14.5%) rates.
Burlington County Criminal Records
The New Jersey State Police (NJSP) provides criminal history checks for all the counties in the state. It offers fingerprint-based background checks via IDEMIA, a third-party vendor that delivers regular and notarized criminal history reports. To request for a background check, you must submit a rolled fingerprint card. Start your request by downloading, printing, and completing a Universal Fingerprint Form A if you are looking for a regular report or a Universal Fingerprint Form B to obtain a notarized report.
Schedule an appointment with IDEMIA by phone through its toll-free line, (877) 503-5981. This line is available between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. and 12 noon on Saturday. You can also make an appointment online via www.bioapplicant.com/nj. Bring the completed fingerprint form to your appointment. The NJSP charges $40.66 for this service plus $10 for vendor fee and state tax.
Burlington County Police Reports
The various boroughs, cities, and towns of Burlington County have their own local police departments. These law enforcement agencies provide incident and accident reports for events that happened within their jurisdictions. Burlington County Sex Offender
New Jersey's Megan's Law mandates individuals convicted of sex offenses to register with local law enforcement agencies. The State law empowers the NJSP to maintain a central database of all registered sex offenders in the state and make this registry available to the public. In fulfilling this mandate, the State Police makes the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry searchable online. Using this resource, residents of Burlington County can find all Tier 3 (most likely to reoffend) offenders and some Tier 2 (moderate risk) offenders residing, working, and attending school in the various municipalities of the county. You can search this registry by name, zip code, city, and street address.
Burlington County Inmate Records
The Burlington County Detention Center is the main correctional facility in the county. The county jail is located at 54 Grant Street, Mount Holly while its phone number is (609) 265-5979. The Burlington County Department of Corrections runs the county jail and publishes a regularly updated and searchable inmate roster. To conduct a Burlington County Inmate Search, inquirers will need to have the inmate’s full name, birth date or DOC number.
To fund an inmate's account, come to the kiosk in the Administration lobby on the first floor of the county jail. Alternatively, you can send a money order by mail to the county jail address.

Court Records
Burlington County has one Superior Court, one Surrogate's Court, and 39 Municipal Courts. The Superior Court is the primary trial court and oversees the Municipal Courts. The Municipal Courts have limited juvenile jurisdiction and can only handle non-jury trials and cases punishable by up to 6 months of jail time. The Surrogate's Court has an even more limited jurisdiction. It handles Probate of Wills and Guardianship cases.

The New Jersey Courts provides online access to the records of Burlington County Superior and Municipal Courts on its website. This is a subscription-based access that requires users to register with the site and pay to search records and view court documents. It is possible to access some court records for free by following the links on the Public/Media page of the New Jersey Courts website.
You can request for copies of Burlington County court records by email. For civil cases, send a completed Records Request Form to moncivrecreq.mailbox@njcourts.gov. To obtain copies of criminal and family law case records as well as the records of any of the Municipal Courts, send a completed Records Request Form to scco.mailbox@njcourts.gov.
New Jersey Courts charges 5 cents per page for letter size documents of plain copies of court records. The fee for legal size pages is 7 cents per page. The cost of a certified copy is $15 while an exemplified record costs $50 plus copy fees and a triple exemplified copy costs $60. You can pay these fees in cash when requesting for court records at courthouses. Checks and money orders are accepted for email requests. Make these payable to Treasurer-State of New Jersey.

Vital Records
The Family Division of the Superior Court maintains the divorce records for Burlington County and sends them to the Superior Court Clerk's Office in Trenton. Request for your divorce record should go to the Superior Court Clerk's Office. Send an email request by submitting a Records Request Form to scco.mailbox@njcourts.gov. The fee for each copy of divorce record is $35. Pay this with a check or money order made out to Treasurer - State of New Jersey.
Certified copies of Burlington County birth, death, marriage, domestic partnership, and civil union records are available from the Office of Vital Statistics and Registry (OVSR) of the New Jersey Department of Health. You can order any of these records by using the Vital Records Online Service.
The fee for each certified copy of a birth, death, marriage, domestic partnership, and civil union certificate is $25. The OVSR charges $2 for each additional copy of the same record ordered at the same time as well as a $5 processing fee and a$5 fee for identity verification. These fees are payable with credit cards.

Are Property Records Open to the Public in Burlington County?
The New Jersey Open Public Records Act provides public access to property records in Burlington County. Upon request, Burlington County record custodians must furnish residents with related records.
Where and How to Find Property Records in Burlington County
The Burlington County Clerk is responsible for maintaining property records in the county. The Clerk's Office has property documents recorded since 1965 and charges $2 per page for plain copies. Certified copies cost a $10 certification fee plus $1 per page. Interested parties may send official requests by mail or email. Parties may also obtain records in person. The Clerk's Office issues a maximum of four documents per request.
A mail request requires a completed request form. The form must be filled with a valid credit card number, the CV number at the back of the card, and the card's expiration date. The requestor must also include the document type and the book and page numbers. Where these numbers are unknown, the form should carry the property instrument number.
