Ocean County recorded 7,697 crimes in 2016, the most recent year with a complete set of crime statistics for New Jersey counties. This figure represents a 9% reduction in overall crime rate compared to the previous year. A closer look at the 2016 crime data for Ocean County indicates that incidences of violent crimes include 4 murders, 55 rapes, 158 robberies, and 356 aggravated assaults. Larceny-theft was the leading property crime with 5,725 cases followed by 1,223 burglaries and 176 motor vehicle thefts.
Compared to the 2012 crime data for Ocean County, there were higher incidences of rape (83.3%), robbery (1.9%), and aggravated assault (13.4%) in 2016. On the other hand, the five-year crime trend for the county shows falling murder (20%), burglary (54%), larceny-theft (31.3%), and motor vehicle theft (17%) rates.
Ocean County Criminal Records
Criminal history checks for Ocean County are available from the New Jersey State Police (NJSP). The law enforcement agency offers fingerprint-based background checks and provides regular and notarized criminal history reports through IDEMIA, a third-party vendor. To request for these reports, download, print, and complete a Universal Fingerprint Form A if you are looking for a regular report. Opt for a Universal Fingerprint Form B when requesting a notarized report.
Make an appointment with IDEMIA by calling the toll-free line, (877) 503-5981, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment on Saturday, call this line between 8:00 a.m. and 12 noon. Requesters can also book their appointments online via www.bioapplicant.com/nj. Bring along the completed request form to your appointment. The NJSP charges $40.66 for this service plus $10 for vendor fee and state tax.

Ocean County Sex Offender Information
New Jersey's Megan's Law requires all sex offenders living, working, and attending school in the state to register with law enforcement agencies. State law also empowers the New Jersey State Police to collate the information of all registered sex offenders into a central database. The part of the database made public include all Tier 3 (most likely to reoffend) offenders and some Tier 2 (moderate risk) offenders. To find those living in Ocean County, search the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry by street addresses, zip codes, and municipalities in the county. You can also search the registry by name to find specific sex offenders.
Ocean County Inmate Information
The Ocean County Department of Corrections operates the county jail. This correctional facility is located at Justice Complex, 114 Hooper Avenue, Toms River. Its contact phone number is (732) 929-2043. The Department of Corrections provides an inmate locator tool to help the public find individuals currently incarcerated in the Ocean County Jail. To conduct an Ocean County Inmate Search using the tool, the user will need to enter the name, gender, birth date and Corrections ID of the inmate of interest.
How to Send Money to an Ocean County Inmate
To deposit money into an inmate's account, visit any of the kiosks in the main lobby of the county jail and in the Bail Office. Acceptable instruments for fund deposits include money order, certified bank check, and state treasury bank check.
Ocean County Court Records

The records of Ocean County Superior and Municipals are available online on a portal (Electronic Access Program) hosted by the organization, New Jersey Courts. This is a subscription-based access to case documents that require users to register with the site and pay to search records. Some court documents are available and freely accessible from the links on the Public/Media page of the New Jersey Courts website.
Ocean County residents can request for copies of court records by email. Send a completed Records Request Form to MonCivRecReq.Mailbox@njcourts.gov to request the records of the Superior Court that hears civil cases. Request copies of criminal and family law case records as well as the records Municipal Courts by emailing a completed Records Request Form to SCCO.Mailbox@njcourts.gov.
The fee for plain copies of Ocean County court records is 5 cents per page for letter size documents. Legal size pages cost 7 cents per page. A certified copy costs $15 while an exemplified record costs $50 plus copy fees and a triple exemplified copy costs $60. Cash payment is accepted for walk-in requests. Fees are also payable with checks and money orders. Make these payable to Treasurer-State of New Jersey.
The Ocean County Clerk's Office maintains all land records for the county. Members of the public can search for the county's property records from the website of the County Clerk. Do so from the county's Official Records Public Search portal.
Vital Records
The Family Division of the Ocean County Superior Court files divorce records for the county. These case files are archived by the Superior Court Clerk's Office in Trenton. To obtain copies of closed divorce case records, submit a Records Request Form to SCCO.Mailbox@njcourts.gov. The Superior Court Clerk charges $35 for each divorce record requested. You can pay this fee with a check or money order payable to Treasurer - State of New Jersey.
Birth, death, marriage, domestic partnership, and civil union records are available from the Office of Vital Statistics and Registry (OVSR) of the New Jersey Department of Health. Make a request for one of these records by completing the online form provided by the Vital Records Online Service.
The Office of Vital Statistics and Registry charges $25 for each certified copy of a birth, death, marriage, domestic partnership, and civil union certificate. Each additional copy of the same record ordered at the same time costs $2. Other fees include a $5 processing fee and another $5 for identity verification. Credit card payments are accepted for online requests.
