Crime Numbers
The Department of Law and Public Safety provides crime data for all the counties in New Jersey. Its 2018 report shows that law enforcement agencies in Hunterdon County recorded 6 rapes, 5 robberies, 27 aggravated assaults, and a single case of murder. Larceny-theft accounted for the highest number of property crimes with 416 recorded offenses. Other property crimes reported include in that year include 111 burglaries and 34 motor vehicle thefts.
The five-year crime trend analysis for Hunterdon County reveals that the rape rate remained the same between 2014 and 2018 while law enforcement agencies recorded one murder in 2018 compared to none in 2014. In the same period, robbery (44.4%), aggravated assault (34.1%), burglary (41%), and larceny-theft (34%) rates rose in the county. However, motor vehicle theft rate dropped by 61.9% in the same five-year period.
Criminal Records
The New Jersey State Police processes criminal history record information requests for personal record review, employment, and other purposes. It offers both fingerprint- and name-based criminal history checks. To request a fingerprint-based check, an applicant must submit a completed Personal Record Request Form, Notarized Personal Record Request Form, Personal Record Employee Form, or a Personal Employer Request Form. Each application costs $42.820, payable by MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, and prepaid debit cards. A copy of the applicant’s government-issued photo identification is required to process this check.
Visit New Jersey Fingerprinting Services website or call IDEMIA at (877) 503-5981 to schedule a fingerprinting appointment. Take along the completed request form and a copy of government-issued photo identification to the fingerprinting center. The State Police will then process the request and mail a criminal history report to the applicant’s address provided on the application form.
The New Jersey State Police allows anyone to request name-based criminal history information online. To submit a request, complete the Criminal History Record Request - Name Check webform. Each check costs $20, payable by MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express credit or debit cards.

Vital Records
Divorce records for Hunterdon County are maintained by the Hunterdon County Superior Court. Visit the courthouse at the address provided above to request for copies of a divorce record. The Superior Court of New Jersey Records Center also provides certified copies of divorce decrees. It charges $20 for each certificate of divorce and $25 for each certified copy of the final judgment of divorce. Fees are payable by check and money order. Address the check or money order to Treasurer State of New Jersey. Cash is only accepted for in-person requests.

The State of New Jersey Department of Health provides marriage, birth, and death records from 1919 to the present. It accepts online, mail, and in-person requests. To request online, visit the Vital Record Online Service and select the type of vital record needed. Each vital record certificate costs $25 for the first copy and $2 for each additional copy requested at the same time. Credit/debit cards are accepted for payments for online requests. Note that there is an additional processing fee of $5 when choosing this option. Online requests also require presenting acceptable forms of identification.
To submit this request in person or by mail, start by printing and completing an Application for a Certified Copy of a Vital Record. Enclose a check or money order for copy fees and make it payable to Treasurer State of New Jersey.
