Mercer County Property Search

Mercer County property records are legal documents containing information on real and personal property, including ownership information, transfer of property, deeds, assignments of leases and rents, tax liens, tax history, deeds, appraisal and assessment reports, property value, location and size of the land, zoning codes, licenses, mortgages, and other documents.

A property record search informs the searcher about the property's age, the current assessed value, major renovations on the property, liens, land ownership details, and possible legal disputes on the land.

Are Mercer County Property Records Public?

According to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (OPRA), state entities and other government offices are required to make their records available to the public with certain exceptions. Public agencies are responsible for limiting the public's access to a citizen's personal and security information. Public agencies are strictly prohibited from disclosing a property owner's address or any other property information that may violate the individual's safety or put them at reasonable risk of harm online.

Where to Perform a Mercer County Property Lookup

Researchers may perform a Mercer County property records search online or in person. Anyone looking to find property records maintained by the Mercer County Clerk can find property documents on its Official Records Search System. The County Clerk's office keeps records of deeds, assignments of mortgages, assignments of rent/leases, building contracts, tax liens, maps, mortgages, power of attorney, tax sale certificates, and other property documents.

Furthermore, this service allows the searchers to find property information with any of the following search criteria:

  • Company name or first and last name of any of the parties involved
  • Document Type
  • Instrument Number
  • Book/Page Type and Number
  • Town name, lot or block number, and
  • A seven to 90-day date range.

In-person requests should visit the County Clerk’s office during regular working hours. The visitor must have ample information on the property to find the records needed; this may be the property address, instrument number, or whatever detail the Clerk’s Office requires. Although searching for and viewing records is free, requests for paper copies of property records are not. Land document copying fees are not uniform, and each document type may cost more or less than the other.
